Mesh Editor automatic spliting
«

Hello,
With mesh editor, is there a way to automatically split a mesh into several meshes? Say like want to automatically split a mesh in 10 pieces..without having to select the triangles to do the splitting?
Best regards

Hi Joao,
With Mesh Editor the only option is to select the triangles manually before splitting the mesh. You can hold the control key down to select multiple triangles at once with the marquee tool which can speed up the selection.
With Mesh Cutter there is an option to select all of the triangles of a submesh (each submesh has its own material) to speed up the selection process but this hasn't been added to Mesh Editor yet.
I hope the marquee selection helps with a large mesh but without knowing how you want to split the object (except by submesh) there is no other way to do this.
Best regards,
Alan

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't get an email notification about your post, which also happened for the Unity forum so I think it's my end.
The marquee tool is built into both Mesh Editor and Mesh Cutter. To use it you hold down the ctrl/command/hotkey while left clicking and dragging the mouse in the scene window. It will then select all of the triangles within the bounding rectangle. This can speed up the selection process greatly rather than using the painting action alone.
Regards,
Alan
